Protective Styling

One thing I have learned with my hair is that it takes well to different styles. Since I have not been putting heat on my curls for so long now just doing a wash-n go will not work for me. I had to learn to do different styles in my hair. Here I will list styles that you can do to your own hair as well to promote growth, prevent single strand knots, and to just look cute.

- Twist                      -Single Strand Twist
- Bantu Knot            -Scarf Styling
- Wash N' Go           -Flexi Rod's
- 50's Inspiration      -Blown Out Twist
- Roller Set               -Blow Dried & Pressed
- Curl Formers         -And many more

As you continue to wear different styles remember to always do your research on your hair, whether its through you tube, blogs, or any other information sources. Be patient and your hair can look lovely at any stage. In the next month i will be adding video's of all these styles listed.

Air Drying & Blow Drying

So many of you know I read all the time about mostly about hair, and exercise I’m a big health person.

One thing that I have started to realize is that Air Drying is the way to go especially us Natural Ladies.

The way we keep our curls so bouncy and shiny is eliminating heat as much as possible

You can get the same results if your hair air dries or if you sit under the dryer. Except with the heat as you know causes damage, by damaging the elasticity in your hair which is an important part in your hair moving freely and reverting back to curls after you washing.

Let your hair Air Dry after you’re either detangle it or you style it. It takes my hair usually two hours. Doesn’t sound that hard right? Not at all it’s the many blessings we have being natural, DRY & GO.

De-Tangling

Okay, if you are looking to promote hair growth this is the topic that you really want to pay good attention to. It’s not a lot of difficulty; it just takes time and patience. Now one thing that I do when I detangle I choose a day when I really don’t have anything so that I can take the time to do my hair and not rush and end up causing damage to my hair or hair shaft.

Materials: Large Wide Tooth Comb, Conditioner, Spray Bottle & Hair Clips

Step 1: When De-tangling hair especially if your hair is prone to knots and tangling your hair should be sopping wet with conditioner. (Your choice of conditioner)
Step 2: Part your hair into sections; I usually do mine in four that way I can make sure I De-tangle it thoroughly. If you try to De-tangle your hair without parting you can cause breakage and damage.
Step 3: Start De-tangling section by section, it usually takes me from 30 minutes to an hour to finish occasionally I may use a spray bottle with water in case the other sections start drying out.
Step 4: When washing your hair out wash it out in sections so that way it doesn’t start tangling again. After you wash your hair out you can style it in sections so that way it’s easier to style.

Washing Your Curls

A lot of my friends and other people i have know and read about have a lot of steps they use or a lot of products to do just a few things to their hair. Herbs and oils all of which are good but if you dont have a lot of time on your hands or get tired of trying to figure out which one is good for your hair, there are some things that work on all hair.

One thing i do for washing my own hair (over trial and error of course) is truly making sure that:

one- shampoo belongs on the scalp not on the ends. Shampoo cleans the scalp but dries the ends out, when rinsing the shampoo put the ends will get clean.
two- i do a pre shampoo (clarifying treatment) twice a month which really gets rid of buildup with helps retain moisture, and enhances body and bounce and shine in your hair. For the "pre-poo" all i use in 1/3 cup Apple Cider Vinegar (find in grocery store with the vinegars) and 1 cup of Water in a spray bottle and have at it, let it sit for 20-30 min..rinse out and follow with your hair wash routine.
three- Shampooing too much dries out hair, try doing a Co-Wash (washing hair with conditioner only and skipping the shampoo) every other wash. This way you keep the shine the conditioner will still clean your hair.(really saves $$ on products as well)
four- Conditioning: I put my conditioner in after im out the shower. Why? So i can de-tangle (will be discussed in next posts) it while its slathered in Conditioner. Also it serves as a deep conditioning treatment if u keep it in for 1 hour w/o heat. This helps promote strong healthy hair, and Shine.
five- ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS rinse out conditioner with COLD water. I cannot stress how important this is. Plays a big role in having shine in your Hair.
six- After Washing put in a good leave in Conditioner I use Mane N'Tail Leave-In-Conditioner which you can find in your local beauty stores, and for a Moisturizer or Oil i promise by All natural Coconut Oil, which you can find at health food marts or places like Trader Joes and Whole Food Market.

Hair Journey Topics

So when i first started growing my hair out, i was at a lost for words, i had no ideal where to start or what products to buy and use for my hair. My hair is very curly so it gets tangled easily. At first when i started i was to scared to just wear it our so i kept straightening my hair. Finally after hours of researching hair care blogs and videos and tutorials i had to think to myself, wait you did this for a reason to get your hair healthy again. Its not easy it takes patience and will power. I want my blog to be able to help others, as other blogs have done for me. So the next post will be about these next few topics..
                    - Washing
                    - De-tangling

                    - Styling (Protective)
                    - Straightening
                    - Sleeping Regimen
                    - Length Retention
Hopefully these discussions can really help you readers out there. This is based off of trial and error and any thing that you think will be helpful to the blog any tips or tricks please leave a comment.

New Hair Age

So hi to everyone who is new to my blog. So i just got to the point where i am tired of straightening my hair and i decided it is time to let the curls hang loose. So far so good, i started to try this new washing regime. I'm still experimenting with different products. I have started using Tresseme Shampoo and Conditioner, one with frizz and the other with curl enhancing. I like them both my hair has been very soft and curly and has been frizz free. I highly recommend it. I can list the products later, but right now i am sipping coffee at SIP the Experience.
